Electric Vehicles Are Taking Over
If you have been on the fence about getting your own electric vehicle there are most certainly some facts you should be aware of. The first is that major auto manufacturers are already announcing they are phasing out the sale of combustion vehicles in the next 10 years. Some of these companies include GM, Volvo, Volkswagen and Jaguar Land Rover.
This is a clear indication that electric vehicles are going to be taking a key role in transport. They offer a variety of advantages over traditional combustion vehicles and usually the most common concern is that of range. The most basic EV can travel around 300km in one charge. A more premium model can expect to travel over 600km.
This is a pretty robust range and when you consider the average Australian drives 36km per day it becomes clear that the fear of being caught without charge is not exactly warranted. Running on electricity also presents 2 additional major benefits. EV’s can save the average Aussie around $1600 per year in fuel costs. That is nothing to sneeze at and the idea that a car can recoup its costs is almost unheard of for non-commercial drivers.
The second benefit of running on electricity is the synergy between EV’s and solar. It would be quite a task to mine and process oil to fuel a car but solar is easily attainable and is becoming standard for Australian homes. If we reduce or eliminate our energy bill through solar we push the savings an EV gives us even further.
